Introduction

Once upon a time, in a faraway land called Israel, there lived a very special man named Jesus. He wasn’t just any man—Jesus was God’s Son! He came to Earth to show everyone how much God loves them. Jesus went from town to town, helping people, healing them when they were sick, and telling them stories about God’s kingdom. He had twelve best friends called disciples who followed him everywhere.

Easter is a super special time because it’s when some of the biggest and most exciting things happened in Jesus’ life. Let’s go on a journey together to find out what happened!

Jesus Rides into Jerusalem

One sunny day, Jesus decided to visit a big city called Jerusalem. He didn’t ride in on a fancy horse like a king might. Instead, he rode a little donkey! As he came into the city, tons of people were waiting for him. They were so excited to see Jesus that they waved big green palm branches and shouted, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” (John 12:13). That means they were saying, “Yay, Jesus! You’re awesome!”

This day is called Palm Sunday because of all those palm branches. The people thought Jesus was going to be their king and save them from all their troubles.

Memory Verse:
“Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” (John 12:13)
Try saying that out loud—it’s a fun cheer for Jesus!

A Special Dinner with Friends

A few days later, Jesus and his disciples had a very important dinner together. We call it the Last Supper because it was the last big meal Jesus had with his friends before something big happened. They sat around a table, and Jesus did something really special. He took some bread, said a prayer, and broke it into pieces. He gave it to his disciples and said, “This is my body, which is given for you” (Luke 22:19). Then he took a cup of wine and said, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood” (Luke 22:20). Jesus was telling them he would soon give his life to save everyone.

A Scary Night in the Garden

After dinner, Jesus went to a quiet garden called Gethsemane to pray. He knew something tough was coming, and he felt a little sad and worried. He asked God, his Father, to help him be strong. While he was praying, his disciples fell asleep because they were so tired!

Suddenly, a bunch of soldiers showed up with torches and swords. One of Jesus’ own disciples, Judas, had told the soldiers where to find him. They arrested Jesus and took him away. His friends were scared and didn’t know what to do.

Little Story:
Have you ever been in a dark place and felt a little scared? Jesus was brave even when things got tough that night.

A Sad Day on the Cross

The next day was really hard. The leaders in Jerusalem didn’t like Jesus, even though he hadn’t done anything wrong. They decided to punish him by putting him on a big wooden cross. Jesus had to carry the heavy cross up a hill called Golgotha. There, the soldiers nailed his hands and feet to the cross. It hurt a lot, but Jesus didn’t get mad. Instead, he said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing” (Luke 23:34). He forgave the people who were hurting him!

After a few hours, Jesus died on the cross. His friends and family were so sad. They took his body down and put it in a tomb—a cave with a big stone rolled in front of it to keep it closed.

Memory Verse:
“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing” (Luke 23:34)
Jesus showed us how to forgive, even when people aren’t nice to us.

The Biggest Surprise Ever!

But the story doesn’t end with sadness—something incredible happened! Three days later, early in the morning, followers who loved Jesus went to visit the tomb. When they got there, they couldn’t believe their eyes. The big stone was rolled away, and the tomb was empty! An angel was sitting there, shining bright, and said, “Don’t be afraid! Jesus isn’t here—he has risen, just like he said he would!” (Matthew 28:5-6).

The women were so happy that they ran to tell the disciples. Later that day, Jesus appeared to his friends! They saw him alive, and they couldn’t stop smiling. Jesus had beaten death and come back to life!

Memory Verse:
“He is not here; he has risen” (Matthew 28:6)
Say this when you’re excited—Jesus is alive!

Jesus Says Goodbye (But Not Forever)

For the next 40 days, Jesus stayed with his disciples. He taught them more about God and how to share his love with everyone. One day, he took them to a hill, blessed them, and went up to heaven to be with God. But he promised, “I’ll always be with you in your heart.”

The disciples weren’t sad this time—they were full of joy because they knew Jesus was alive forever. And that’s why we celebrate Easter every year!

Memory Verse:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16)
This is the most famous verse ever—it’s all about God’s big love for you!
